Ladies and Gentlemen,
By the time the Conference closes this afternoon, it will have held:
Participants shared state-of-the-art knowledge and the most up-to-date information on marine science and challenges. They showcased many innovative solutions, as reflected in the voluntary commitments.
The negotiated outcome document of the Conference – the “Call for Action” – lists 22 specific measures to galvanize global commitments and partnerships for our Ocean.
The 1,234 Voluntary Commitments are truly impressive in the range of issues they cover. The Commitments are still being registered, so the number will keep changing. We have copies of an info-graphic presentation in the room and on-line, so I will not go into details here.
The Registry of Voluntary Commitments will remain open after the Conference, with all the details transparent and publicly accessible online.
We encourage everyone to continue to register new commitments, even after the conclusion of this conference.
Our work has only just begun. The registry is not just a Conference registry – it is an Ocean solutions registry.
The lessons learned at this conference will inform the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July, which will also discuss SDG 14 and its interlinkages with other SDGs and targets.
We stand ready to support member States and stakeholder groups in the follow-up process through analysis, and through facilitating exchange of experience and lessons learned.

- eight plenary meetings and seven partnership dialogues
- 150 side events
- 41 exhibitions; and
- an SDG Media Zone that hosted interviews with a diverse mix of high-level officials, experts, celebrities, artists, and other ocean advocates.
