UNDSS through its Security and Safety Services (SSS), plays a vital role in the security planning and execution of United Nations special events and conferences worldwide, including those held beyond traditional UN duty stations. Each year, we collaborate closely with UN entities, host governments, and United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) partners to reinforce security measures for events of all sizes, levels of visibility, and risk profiles.

By working in tandem with field and headquarters teams, we deliver strategic guidance and operational support to safeguard delegates, UN staff, and visitors. This includes coordinating and deploying UN Security officers from various duty stations, liaising with host-country officials, and engaging other stakeholders to facilitate the secure and seamless conduct of UN activities.

Our support for special events encompasses risk assessment and security planning, the deployment and coordination of UN Security officers, VIP and protective security arrangements, access control and perimeter management, fire and life-safety protocols, and ongoing collaboration with host governments and civil society organizations, among other essential functions.
