Event Summary:

The #SmallSmurfsBigGoals campaign was launched in February 2017 to encourage the general public to learn about and take action on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. A collaboration between the UN and Sony Pictures Entertainment, the campaign used public service announcement videos and social media messages featuring the Smurfs to reach out to fans worldwide and urge them to do their part to end extreme poverty, protect the planet, and promote a peaceful and just world. The campaign culminated on the International Day of Happiness, celebrated on 20 March each year. In a special blue carpet presentation at the UN General Assembly Hall, the stars of the movie – Demi Lovato, who voices Smurfette, Joe Manganiello who is Hefty and Mandy Patinkin or Papa Smurf – honoured three young students promoting the SDGs in their communities with a symbolic key to the Smurfs Village in recognition of their work.
