Message From Director, Regional Commissions New York Office, Ms. Rosa Malango
As 2022 begins to wind down, we look back and reflect on our achievements, draw lessons and plan for the year ahead. The year witnessed a complex set of entangled crises which put the international system to the test. While it was certainly challenging in many ways, the year showed how adaptive and responsive the Regional Commissions have been in the toughest of times.
2022 afforded us opportunities to recalibrate our strategic coordination, advisory support, and outreach functions in the context of shifting demands, cascading crises, and the new ways of working under the UN reform. These efforts have paid off in bringing more coherence to joint initiatives and ensuring better visibility to and uptake of the work of the Regional Commissions.
As the year draws to a close, giving way to a new one full of possibilities and hope, we are excited and look forward to all that 2023 has in store for us. Next year will be a critical year to reignite momentum around the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, with a number of critical milestones notably the Regional Forums and HLPF, the 2023 SDG Summit and the SG’s Climate Ambition Summit – all charting pathways to rescue the SDGs.
As this year concludes, I want to thank the teams of the Regional Commissions and our partners for their continued engagement and partnership. I look forward to a successful 2023 - working and delivering together for the people we serve - and wish you a fantastic New Year.
