In the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Executive Secretaries of the ESCAP and UNECE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UNDP Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office on 23 September 2024.
The MOU operationalizes Trust Fund for the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) by appointing the UNDP Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office as the agent to administer the Fund on behalf of ESCAP and UNECE and serve as the interface with donors. The Agreement also lays out coordination mechanisms to facilitate collaboration and joint resource mobilization. The creation of the Fund follows the decision taken at the SPECA Summit in Baku in November 2023.
Supported jointly by UNECE and ESCAP, the Special Programme seeks to strengthen cooperation and integration in Central Asia and its participation in the global economy.
The Trust Fund will be operational starting 1 September 2024.
