
Youth Engagement on Political and Mediation Processes
Meeting of the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security (GCYPS) to provide inputs on the New Agenda for Peace
The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, through the Peacebuilding Support Office, organized on 24 January a virtual dialogue of the GCYPS to discuss the role of youth in the New Agenda for Peace. GCYPS benefits from the membership of more than 70 organizations across the world from civil society, including youth-led and youth-focused organizations, UN entities, donors, academia and inter-governmental bodies. Over sixty participants joined the discussion, which highlighted the importance of continuing to ensure and strengthen the centrality of youth in peace and security efforts at all levels.
Reflecting on the progress, achievements, and challenges of the Five-year Strategic Action Plan for youth-inclusive peace processes
On February 28, DPPA, the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth (OSGEY), and Search for Common Ground hosted the event "Five-year strategic action plan for youth-inclusive peace processes: Reflections on the first year of implementation". The event aimed to reflect on the progress, achievements, and challenges of the Five-year Strategic Action Plan for youth-inclusive peace processes. Ms Roselyn Akombe, Chief of the Policy and Partnership branch at DPPA/PBSO, emphasized the importance of institutionalizing YPS at all levels, including through the development of national and regional action plans. Briefers from the African Union, the European Union, and young peacebuilders from Colombia and Yemen, outlined initiatives and progress on youth-inclusive mediation and peace processes. The event also launched the application to the International Steering Group (ISG) which will guide the collective efforts to advance the Five-Year Strategic Action Plan for youth-inclusive peace processes.
