Exploring the Developmental Potential of Remittances in West Africa, 22 November 2023

Summary

The United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) invite you to a webinar on "Exploring the Developmental Potential of Remittances in West Africa."

Remittances hold a strategic position in West African countries due to their consistent growth and counter-cyclical nature, proving their resilience during economic crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, West Africa received nearly $34 billion in remittances, which supported essential expenses such as education, healthcare, and housing, significantly contributing to poverty reduction. Despite their importance, remittances remain relatively untapped as a source of financial support in the region.

The webinar aims to discuss the policy implications, opportunities, and challenges of harnessing remittances and diaspora finance for sustainable development in West Africa.

Join experts and policymakers in an exciting dialogue on the challenges and opportunities presented by remittances.
