Trading beyond the trade rules: financing the SDGs with multilateralism under fire

Event Details

Organized by:

UNCTAD, Permanent Mission of Tanzania

Summary:

Multilateralism is at a crossroads with globalization under fire and nativism and populism on the rise. After a decade of sluggish trade growth, and with FDI yet to return to pre-crisis levels, the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the AAAA commitments are already at serious risk. New technologies and new approaches, as well as new partnerships, offer some hope to remake globalization for the benefit of sustainable development. But is it too little to late? What does the future hold for globalization and its impact on implementing the 2030 Agenda? What are the national and international actions that can be taken today to help the global economy change course? This event will offer perspectives from UNCTAD’s intergovernmental and analytical pillars on the Financing for Development follow-up process, and on the bold steps needed to confront the uncertain future of globalization.
