Pushing the boundaries of official development assistance: challenges and opportunities

Summary:
The OECD Development Assistance Committee is changing what counts as Official Development Assistance (ODA). This so-called modernisation of ODA is bound to change dramatically how donors allocate public resources, likely in a way that sees more money being channelled through investment vehicles like Development Finance Institutions which are increasingly looking to blended financing to carry out development initiatives. These developments come with some opportunities but also with significant new challenges. In keeping with the AAAA commitment to ensure the ODA modernisation process is inclusive, the side event will benefit from the diverse participation to the ECOSOC FfD Forum in order to explore the key issues in this debate and prepare for the possible implications on development policies, outcomes and financing.
