Registration for CSD Meetings

Announcements

Requirements

The Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) requires all non-governmental participants to be representatives of organizations that have been accredited to participate in CSD meetings.

Major groups organizations that are in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), including those on the CSD Roster, can send representatives to CSD meetings. Major groups organizations that were accredited to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) must have by now obtained consultative status with ECOSOC in order to participate.

If your organization is not accredited and you wish to send representatives to CSD meetings, you are welcome to contact an accredited organization within your networks and explore the possibility of including your representatives in their delegation. The major groups organizing partners may also choose, at their discretion, to include representatives of unaccredited organizations under their umbrella so that they may participate in meetings.

Alternatively, major groups participants may also wish to request that they be included in the official delegation of their national government by contacting the relevant Ministry.

There are currently two categories of major groups organizations that can participate in CSD meetings:

  • Major groups' organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC)
  • Major groups' organizations accredited to the CSD Roster

You can search the lists of accredited organizations on the NGO Branch website.

Pre-registration for the CSD-19 Intergovernntal Preparatory Meeting and CSD-19

If you are planning to attend the CSD-19 Policy Session, and/or its Intergovernmental Preparatory Meeting (IPM) you must be pre-registered through an accredited organization in order to register at the meeting and receive a UN grounds pass. This includes any major groups representatives participating in the Partnerships Fair, Learning Centre, and Side Events.

Pre-registration is managed through an online system. The CSO Net will allow you to log in and manage your organization's pre-registration request, including adding or changing names of representatives and printing confirmation letters.

Representatives must present a valid photo ID (a national passport, for example) at the registration desk upon arrival at United Nations Headquarters. Details on the location and schedule for the registration desk will be shared once available. Please ensure that your organization holds the necessary accreditation BEFORE sending representatives to New York or making travel arrangements for them

Representatives requiring a visa to enter the United States are advised to apply as early as possible to ensure adequate time for processing with the host country authorities.

When applying for a visa to the United States, it is recommended that representatives bring a copy of the UN confirmation letter and a letter prepared by their own organization to the US Consulate or Embassy. The letter from the organization should include detailed information on the visa applicant (e.g. position, number of years employed with the organization, number of representatives in the delegation to the UN).

If your representatives have working relations with the United States Mission in their respective countries, they may also wish to request a letter of referral from their contact to be presented to the US Consulate or Embassy with the visa application. However, it is important to note that the referring official has no role in the final decision to issue a visa.
