Experts Urge Way Forward to Achieve Energy Targets Despite Crises, in SDG7 Policy Briefs for HLPF 2026

Energy experts from across the UN system and key partners have issued a set of policy briefs that outline the key steps urgently needed to achieve clean, affordable energy for all — Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) — before the 2030 deadline, while acknowledging that escalating crises and supply disruptions may reverse the important gains that have been made.

The SDG7 Policy Briefs in Support of the HLPF 2026: Accelerating Action on SDG7 and Its Interlinkages for a Final Push Towards 2030 have been released on 25 June by the SDG7 Technical Advisory Group to support the review of Goal 7 taking place 7 July at this year's High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, at UN Headquarters in New York.

The interlinkages between energy and each of the Sustainable Development Goals are explored in the 21 policy briefs compiled in the publication, together with regional policy briefs, including one dedicated to least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS). Collectively, the briefs demonstrate that SDG 7 is not only a goal in its own right, but also a powerful enabler of poverty eradication, improved health and education, food security, gender equality, decent work, industrial development, climate action and resilience.

The SDG7 Technical Advisory Group, with over 40 members from across the international system, champion governments, NGOs and youth organizations, is convened by UN DESA.
