Description/outline
The project completed three Field Medical Assistants Courses (FMACs) for non-medical personnel, with 90 graduates from 17 countries; and three FMACs training of trainers (TOT) for medical personnel, with 22 participants from 16 countries. Additionally, Bangladesh, Brazil, Pakistan, Senegal, and Togo replicated the FMAC TOT in their countries. Brazil and Pakistan have incorporated elements of FMAC into their medical training. A total of 112 personnel benefited from the trainings.

Synopsis

Objectives

The project aims, through the Field Medical Assistants Courses (FMAC), to reduce incidents of preventable in-service death and disability of personnel from UN peacekeeping missions and African Union-led peace support operation personnel by enhancing capabilities of non-medical peacekeepers to provide to provide life-saving interventions to sick or injured personnel, during the first hour of the occurrence of an incident until more highly trained care providers arrive.

Main achievements

The project extended its activities to African Union-led peace support operation personnel. 112 personnel benefited from the trainings.
