Canada has contributed CAD 1,500,000 towards the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) Appeal. The contribution will help UNDSS to provide effective, people centered security support to the UN family and its partners, especially in times of crisis.
This support will go towards the creation of an Emergency Response Team that can support a rapid scale-up of humanitarian operations and provide an enabling environment for humanitarian aid delivery even in the most complex and dangerous contexts. Support will also go towards the Department’s Digital Transformation, a revitalized information management effort to strengthen UNDSS' capacity to respond effectively to security challenges by harnessing the potential of digital technologies for timely decision-making and improved situational awareness.
In expressing appreciation for the generous contribution from Canada, Under Secretary-General Michaud said, “I am grateful for Canada’s leadership role and commitment to UNDSS. This contribution will build capacity within UNDSS to quickly respond to sudden onset emergencies and state fragility. It will enable UN programming and thereby support provision of humanitarian assistance to millions when and where it is needed most.”
