What?

The United Nations Countering Terrorist Travel ('CT Travel') Programme, is pleased to share the latest events and news articles, through an “All-of-UN” partnership with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the United Nations Office of Information and Communication Technology (UNOICT), the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), and in close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Programme comprehensively assists beneficiary Member States in legislative, operational, transport industry engagement, and technical areas.

The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), through its flagship Countering Terrorist Travel (‘CT Travel’) Programme, organized a two-day Informal Working Group (IWG) meeting for 34 delegates representing law enforcement, counter-terrorism, security, and civil aviation agencies from 11 countries in the Southern African region, on the 24th of November in Gaborone, Botswana.

The OSCE Transnational Threats Department and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) organized two events from 1 to 4 November 2022 focused on supporting States in implementing passenger data programmes, enhancing coordination between participating States, international organizations, and private sector companies, and deepening regional co-operative partnerships.

12 October 2020 to 16 October 2020

The Countering Terrorist Travel Programme delivered its first online training course on the detection of terrorists and their travel movements using travel information including API and PNR from 12 to 16 October 2020. Twenty participants from Botswana, including focal points and airport staff, participated.

05 October 2020 to 08 October 2020

From 5 to 8 October 2020, the CT Travel Programme and its Partnes successfully completed a virtual deep-dive assessment with The Gambia. The deep-dive was a gap analysis exercise with The Gambia which identified areas for technical assistance in implementing the API and PNR programme across four pillars: legal, operational, transport industry engagement, and technical.
