Brochure: Peace Forest Initiative: Restoring peace and trust through nature

The Peace Forest Initiative (PFI) represents a beacon of hope in these unprecedented times of growing instability. By merging ecological restoration, education and dialogue with peacebuilding and conflict-sensitive approaches, the PFI seeks to create sustainable communities and foster cooperative coexistence. In bringing together diverse stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, and local communities, moreover, it offers a model for global cooperation and peace, nurturing both people and nature for a more sustainable future. The PFI is also timely, in its alignment with increasing efforts to integrate peacebuilding efforts into climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. This brochure provides insight into the PFI, presenting an overview of its purpose, key milestones, and success stories in the area of environmental peacebuilding.

Contributions to mitigating conflict between mobile pastoral communities in South Sudan

This Learning Brief documents the main lessons drawn from the country investment implemented jointly by FAO and UNESCO and their implementing partners in South Sudan from 2019 to 2021 in the framework of the Global Network Against Food Crises Partnership Programme, funded by the European Union. It showcases key learning on the role of the Pastoralist Livelihoods and Education Field Schools (PLEFS) approach in enhancing food security and livelihoods resilience of mobile pastoral communities and households in South Sudan’s cattle camps. More specifically, this learning brief explores how and to what extent an approach like PLEFS contributes to mitigating conflict and building resilience in pastoral areas.

Practical Note: Operationalising the Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace Declaration

Climate finance for fragile and conflict-affected contexts continues to fall short. Although extreme weather events affect three times as many people in fragile and conflict-affected states annually compared to other countries, they receive up to 80 times less climate finance. This practical note provides guidance for actors to deliver peace-positive climate action and climate-informed peacebuilding in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

It comes with an accompanying package of contributions, many of which include support to the CSM.
