Angel Gurría took up the post of Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on 1 June 2006, following a distinguished career in Mexico's public service as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance and Public Credit. After a 14-year tenure with the Finance Ministry, Mr. Gurría became President and Chief Executive Officer of Mexico's export-import Bancomext and of Nacional Financiera, the national development bank specializing in supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises.
