The implementation of the Pact for the Future was the theme for a special session of the meeting of the Secretaries General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) in Marrakech.

Fethi Debbabi, Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Rabat, was invited as the keynote speaker for this session. He recalled the main commitments made by member states on the five chapters of the Pact for the Future and the challenges facing their implementation.

These challenges are especially significant with regard to reforming the global governance and the international financial system, as well as placing the new technologies and AI in the interest of humanity.

Emphasizing the key role parliaments can play as representatives of world citizens, he said that the Mediterranean region, the cradle of civilizations, has always been a "laboratory of multilateralism."

As the world goes through critical times, said Mr. Debbabi, the region has the potential to lead by example in implementing the Pact for the Future, promoting efficient multilateralism that benefits all countries along the Mediterranean and their neighbours.

Sergio Piazzi, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, emphasized the organization's steadfast dedication to supporting the implementation of the Pact for the Future and reforming multilateral governance.

He stated that this strategic issue is among their work priorities for the upcoming period, during which the PAM will follow up with parliaments and urge member states to honor their commitments in the Pact for the Future.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is an international organization established in 2005 by the national parliaments of Euro-Mediterranean countries. Its main objective is to promote cooperation among member states to find common solutions to the region's political, economic, and social challenges.
