The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Eamon Gilmore, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, and Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE.
They discussed Ireland’s 2012 OSCE Chairmanship and the strong UN-OSCE cooperation, as well as Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Secretary-General expressed his hope that, during Ireland’s EU Presidency, the European Union would continue to be a strong supporter and advocate for tackling climate change, the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the establishment of a vigorous post-2015 development agenda.
They also exchanged views on Palestine, the Middle East peace process and on the grave situation in Syria, agreeing on the urgent need for the international community to help broker solutions for these issues.
