Secretary-General's video message for 16th Conference of the Committee on Teaching about the United Nations (CTAUN): "The UN at 70: Making a Difference"

Ban Ki-Moon, Former Secretary-General

Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN) for its 16th annual conference, and a special welcome to its Chair Anne-Marie Carlson.

I greatly value your contribution over the years. You have shown that there is hardly any subject taught at a school or university that does not have a UN dimension.

I welcome the focus of your conference on “The United Nations at 70: Making a Difference”.

In this anniversary year, the United Nations can look back on a record of solid achievement.  But as we reflect and look forward, we are keenly aware that insecurity, injustice and intolerance afflict many millions of people.

The year ahead offers opportunities to set the world on a safer, more prosperous and sustainable course.

Now is the time for global action on climate change and for agreement on an inspiring set of sustainable development goals.

I count on you to play a critical role in helping us engage young people in implementing this new agenda and promoting global citizenship.

Together, we must build a world of dignity and opportunity for all.

Thank you again for your commitment to educating and informing new generations about the ideals and objectives of the United Nations.

I wish you a successful conference.

Thank you.
