SECURITY COUNCIL DEBATE ON WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY

The Security Council held an open debate on "Women, Peace and Security", on 24-25 October 2000, in the Security Council Chamber. This is the first time in history of the UN that the Security Council has devoted an entire session to a debate on women's experiences in conflict and post-conflict situations and their contributions to peace. The meeting was sponsored by Namibia, which holds the Presidency of the Security Council for the month of October.
