Czech Republic 10 Years of Water Protection in the Czech Republic In the early 90’s, the state of the environment and particularly water and air, were considered critical, with an urgent need for major improvement. During the period 1990-1999, the Czech Republic has demonstrated that fundamental improvements in the development of water protection can be achieved in a relatively short term through systemic changes in legislation, organizational, institutional and economic character. In early 1999, in preparation to accede to the European Union, the requirements of the European water law were incorporated in Czech legislation, especially through the Act on Waters, the Act on Public Water Mains and Sewerages, and the Act on Public Health. At present, and along the EU Framework Water Directive, the main goal is to achieve implementation of the main principles of sustainable development in the area of water protection by the year 2015.
Slovenia Ecoremediation in Water Management “Ecoremediation in water management” comprises systems and processes which function in natural and artificial ecosystems. The main impact was the reforestation of the natural environment and achieving ecosystem stability.

Switzerland’s involvement in the water sector in Azerbaijan consisted of a grant to rebuild booster pumping stations in the Baku area. The project was inaugurated in 2003 when nearly all pumps were successfully installed. The rehabilitation of the booster pumping stations was an important component of a comprehensive rehabilitation of the water supply network of the greater Baku area, funded primarily by the World Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (WB and EBRD).
