Global Broadcast

The Peace Day Global Broadcast is a multimedia event involving millions of people in countries around the world participating in parades, concerts, dance celebrations, exhibitions and educational events in celebration of the United Nations International Day of Peace.

The full Peace Day Global Broadcast begins September 17 with the ringing of the Peace Bell from UN Headquarters by the Secretary General, and continues through September 21, the official International Day of Peace.

The Broadcast will stream Peace Day celebrations live on multiple Internet channels as they unfold around the planet. People around the world can log on to the webcast to upload footage from their local celebrations. The Broadcast will intersperse the live feeds with video segments showcasing the vibrant work of thousands of changemakers around the globe.

The Peace Day broadcasts were initiated in 2009 by Bill McCarthy, founder and president of Unity Foundation. Segments in this year’s broadcast will feature Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Stevie Wonder, Bono, Annie Lennox, Alanis Morissette, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Dr. Jane Goodall, James Cameron, “The Elders” - Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Mary Robinson, and Kofi Annan and many other prominent people. The Peace Day 2010 production team includes Unity Foundation, Peace Portal and GlobaLink TotalVision Network.
