UNDEF-backed Jordanian rights group wins prestigious UN award

The Amman Center for Human rights studies (ACHRS), which has received support from the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF), is one of the 2023 winners of the United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights.
ACHRS was awarded the prize in recognition of the centre’s outstanding achievement in human rights, and the indelible strides made in advancing human rights awareness and activism within Jordan.
The UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF) financed a project aimed at developing a dialogue about human rights, by building a constructive partnership between Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Jordanian Parliament.
The project – entitled Supporting Political Dialogue Between Civil Society and Parliament in Jordan – incentivized politicians to become more active and knowledgeable about human rights, whilst engaging the Youth to become agents of change, and promote respect for rights.
"We are delighted that the work of ACHRS is being celebrated,” said Christian Lamarre of UNDEF. “They have worked tirelessly to educate, advocate, mobilize, and empower individuals striving to foster a culture of respect for human rights in Jordan”.
In a world where the fight for human rights remains a constant struggle, recognizing the efforts of those who stand up to champion these rights is essential. The UN Prize in the field of Human Rights is a distinguished honour that shines a light on individuals and organizations that have displayed exceptional dedication to promoting and protecting the rights of people around the world.
Since its inception in 1966 by UN General Assembly (A/RES/21/2217), It has been awarded every five years for “outstanding achievements in the field of human rights.
