This fall, the Department of Global Communications will welcome (virtually) 22 working journalists from around the world as part of the 2022 Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship (RAF), a General Assembly-mandated programme founded in 1980.

The fellows were selected from more than 700 applicants from developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

The thirteen women and nine men are nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Cameroon, Chile, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Jordan, Malawi, Malaysia, Moldova, Nigeria, Panama, Papua New Guinea, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

They work in a range of media, including print, television, radio, web and podcasting.

The fellows will participate in a three-week-long online programme on the United Nations. They will cover the general debate and high-level segments of the General Assembly, attend the daily noon briefings of the Secretary-General’s spokesperson and receive special briefings by UN experts on topics including refugees, food security, peacekeeping, women’s rights and sustainable development.
