The 2024 United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) has been launched and applications are now open until 31 October.

UNPSA is a prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service. It rewards the creative achievements and contributions of public service institutions that lead to a more effective and responsive public administration worldwide. UNPSA promotes the role, professionalism and visibility of public service. It seeks initiatives dedicated to providing quality public services for the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Nominations for the 2024 UNPSA are invited in three categories:

1) Innovation in Public Institutions;

2) Gender-Responsive Public Services; and

3) Special category on Tackling Climate Change.

Public sector institutions at the national, sub-national and local levels from all UN member states are eligible to apply.  In the case of partnerships, the application must include the public sector institution.  To avoid conflict of interest, the initiative can not be implemented by the United Nations System.

Nominations must be completed before 31 October 2023 through the UNPSA portal at: https://publicadministration.un.org/en/UNPSA

UNPSA was first introduced in 2003 to promote and support innovations in public service when the General Assembly designated 23 June as Public Service Day through resolution 57/277.

For two decades, the United Nations Public Service Awards Programme has celebrated excellence in public service by recognizing the creative achievements and contributions of public institutions to address the social, economic and environmental needs of society.

It has gathered more than 500 global initiatives showcasing the vital role of public service innovation in promoting sustainable development and inclusivity.
