The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) celebrates the Seventieth Anniversary of Guided Tours at United Nations Headquarters in New York with a special event sheet of ten stamps in the denomination of US$1.40.

Guided tours at UNHQ began in 1952, with a corps of ten guides. Since then, hundreds of men and women have presented the work of the Organisation to more than 42 million people from around the world, in dozens of languages.

The stamps portray the guides and tour routes used throughout the years. The background features a portrait of Oxana Gaertner, one of the first guides at United Nations Headquarters.

The stamp sheet was designed by Sergio Baradat of UNPA.

An exhibition has been designed for the anniversary (on display at UNHQ from 4-25 November). The exhibit looks back on the first seventy years of the UN Headquarters guided tours. It tells the story of the public’s experience of the complex and how the UN’s engagement with the public continues to be an urgent task today.

“For seven decades, our multilingual tour guides have been the face and voice of the United Nations to over 42 million visitors from around the world. We celebrate their 70th anniversary and honour their vital ongoing mission to enhance understanding of the essential work of the United Nations,” says Secretary-General António Guterres.

You can personalize the labels of this stamp sheet by replacing the UN logo with a photograph either by visiting the stamp shop at UN Headquarters or by uploading your photos to the UNPA website.
