The United Nations is currently accepting applications for the 2026 competitive examination for German translators.
This examination aims to establish a roster to fill present and future vacancies (P-2/P-3) at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Required:

A perfect command of English and German (Level IV).

French or Spanish (reading: Level IV; writing: Level II; listening: Level III; speaking: Level II).

At least a first-level degree or an equivalent qualification in translation, interpretation, modern languages or another relevant subject, such as law, economics or international relations, from a university or institution where German was the principal language of instruction.
Desirable:

Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations.

An advanced degree, postgraduate diploma or PhD in translation, interpretation, modern languages or another relevant subject.

Two or more years of practical experience in translation or a related field.
As the examination is conducted remotely, a computer and a high-speed internet connection are required.
Applications are open until 15 February 2026 (11:59 p.m. New York time) and must be submitted in English, except for the motivation statement which must be in German.
