Have you ever been in this situation? You’re late for your intergovernmental body meeting and don’t have the specifics. Before you walk into your meeting, how can you find the information you need without having to browse the multilingual Journal of the United Nations for the meeting of interest?

Worry no more! Now that information is easily available through the QR code on the multiple display screens outside meeting rooms at the United Nations Headquarters.

A QR code, which stands for quick response code, is a machine-readable bar code that can contains information about the item to which it points, such as a website. A QR code is readable by your smart phone and other hand-held devices, either by using the camera or any QR code reader app. If you don’t have a QR code app on your phone, you can download one from the App Store for Apple devices or the Play Store for Android devices.

By scanning the QR code on the display screens outside a meeting room, you will be taken to the “Official Meetings” section of the Journal which will contain more details on the meeting to be held or in progress in that room. At this stage, you can then navigate to the language of choice – one of the 6 UN official languages. You can then access the agenda and other documents related to that official meeting, the statements delivered that have been already uploaded, a link to the live webcast when available, and other meeting relevant information.

In addition, the QR code at the bottom of the large displays close to the Vienna Café showing the live programme of the day will take you to the “Official Meetings” section in the Journal.

A piece of cake! It’s all about being instant, fast and convenient!
