Professor Muhammad Yunus is the founder and Managing Director of Grameen Bank, which operates 2,283 branches, providing credit to 6.83 million poor people in Bangladesh. Professor Yunus and Grameen Bank are the recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2006, for their efforts to create economic and social development from below. He has also received many international awards and honorary doctorate degrees and served on many United Nations advisory groups, commissions and committees.
