LDC Future Forum - Information for Media

WHAT: The Sustainable Development Goals will live or die in the Least Developed Countries. To tackle the unprecedented confluence of the COVID-19, climate, and economic crises, new solutions are desperately needed. The LDC Future Forum will bring together some of the brightest minds in development academics with policymakers and practitioners to formulate new solutions to these pressing problems. Their ideas will transform the global development agenda as we approach the last decade of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Featuring thought leaders including Professors Jeffrey Sachs, Joseph Stiglitz and Richard Jolly, the Forum will introduce bold and innovative solutions to preparations for the Fifth United Nations Conference on LDCs (LDC5), taking place in Doha in January 2022. It will tackle the structural challenges and emerging issues faced by LDCs and introduce policy recommendations to support them to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, build competitiveness and move towards convergence with other more developed economies.

WHEN: October 5-7, 2021

WHO: Selected academics, selected through a competitive process, will present their research findings on issues affecting LDCs. Several world-renowned academics, including Professors Jeffrey Sachs, Joseph Stiglitz and Richard Jolly will join policymakers from LDCs and donor countries. With generous support from the Government of Finland, the Forum is being organised by the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) in collaboration with the United Nations University World Institute for Development (UNU-WIDER) and the Sustainable Solutions Development Network (SDSN).
