The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) and the Norwegian Embassy in Ethiopia and Permanent Mission to the African Union recently marked two significant milestones in their partnership on peace and security in Africa.
UNOAU and Norway conducted a ceremonial exchange of the renewed project agreement documents and launched the third edition of the She Stands for Peace publication.
The project, valued at 6 million Norwegian kroner, is running from October 2025 to December 2026. It strengthens joint efforts in conflict prevention, mediation, and peace support operations, while integrating the Women, Peace and Security Agenda across all areas of the partnership.
During the event, Parfait Onanga Anyanga, Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of UNOAU, and Stian Christensen, Norway’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, reaffirmed their shared commitment to ensuring that peace processes in Africa reflect women’s leadership, perspectives, and lived experiences.
The programme also featured a book reading and contributions from partners, including the Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations.
The renewed partnership underscores Norway’s continued investment in inclusive, sustainable peace efforts across the continent.
