From May through August, the Visitor Services Section offers guided tours of the UN’s North Lawn, a green space rich with history, symbolism, and unexpected stories.
These seasonal tours offer a unique chance to step away from the busy halls of Headquarters and take a stroll through the rose garden where dozens of varieties bloom in vibrant colour, admire the iconic cherry blossom trees (a gift from Japan), and enjoy the tranquil natural beauty that surrounds us.
The UN garden also houses many gifts donated by Member States over the years. Highlights include the striking “George and the Dragon” statue, an emblem of peace overcoming violence, and a preserved segment of the Berlin Wall. One of the most moving stops on the tour is a lesser-known memorial, a quiet tribute to Eleanor Roosevelt, a driving force behind the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and one of the most influential women in UN history.
Whether you are new to the UN or a longtime staff member, these tours provide fresh insights into the legacy and values that continue to shape our mission.
Tours are available every Wednesday from May through August. Check availability and book your North Lawn Tour at the Ticket Desk in the General Assembly lobby to discover the stories that live in our own backyard.
