#BuildingOurFutureTogether
Whether you live in a mountain village in Afghanistan or in New York, on a small Pacific island or in Africa, in Estonia or in Brazil, the United Nations System* is part of your life in ways you might not expect. Multilateralism — the idea that people and governments everywhere must work together — keeps the world functioning and helps us tackle global challenges together.
No matter who we are, we share one world. Our lives are connected, our challenges are mutual, and our future is intertwined. Only by valuing our common humanity and working for our shared destiny as one species on one planet, can we build a healthier, safer and more prosperous world — for ourselves and for generations to come.
This exhibition, marking the United Nations’ 80th Anniversary, showcases more than 200 stories from 193 countries**, highlighting the many ways in which the world’s most crucial international organization impacts all our daily lives: supporting peace and security, overseeing regulatory frameworks, providing humanitarian assistance and fostering development, facilitating international conventions on trade, or advancing human rights.
At UN Headquarters in New York, we are highlighting 24 of these stories. The rest are being uploaded gradually below until December 2025. Selections of stories are also being exhibited in multiple physical locations around the world.
This exhibit is organized by the UN Department of Global Communications, led by its 59 UN Information Centres (UNICs), together with the Permanent Missions of Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland.
The exhibition is based on submissions received through a global call. Editorial discretion was applied to present the global United Nations story in the best possible way. The featured images and texts are not intended to represent the countries they are from, nor do they necessarily reflect the UN’s specific focus in those countries.
*The United Nations System includes the United Nations Secretariat, specialized agencies, funds, and programmes, as well as related organizations that work together to implement the UN’s mandates.
**Plus Kosovo, Occupied Palestinian Territory and Western Sahara
