Creating an enabling environment for all personnel at the United Nations means taking action against all forms of discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment.
The CEB Task Force on Addressing Sexual Harassment, the UN Secretariat, UN Women, and the Group of Friends to Eliminate Sexual Harassment recently organized the event Realizing Zero Tolerance Through Joint Leadership.
It continued the series of peer-to-peer learning dialogues and launched a publication by UN Women reflecting on the past dialogues on preventing and eliminating sexual harassment.
“The recommendations in the publication offer a clear vision of what we collectively must achieve in our efforts to prevent and eliminate sexual harassment in the UN system,” said Patrick F. Kennedy, from the Permanent Mission of the United States to the UN, in his keynote address.
“[T]hey serve as a powerful reminder of the work ahead of us to translate this vision into a safer and more inclusive workplace,” he said.
The publication summarizes the key messages of past dialogues and provides concrete recommendations to take this important issue forward.
The four dialogues were attended by 600 individuals and featured 30 expert speakers from inside and outside of the UN.
The event brought together senior UN leaders, Member States, civil society, academia, and the international community to continue the conversation on this important topic. It featured a panel discussion on good practices and the impact of leadership.
Through joint leadership and the sharing of best practices, our collective efforts will bring us closer to preventing and ultimately eradicating sexual harassment.
