Event Summary:

The world premiere of He Named Me Malala, a feature documentary directed by the Academy Award winner Davis Guggenheim, was organized by CCOI in cooperation with Fox Searchlight Pictures and the Independent Filmmaker Project. A discussion with Malala, and her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, moderated by Mr. Guggenheim, followed the screening. The documentary presents the story of Malala, the young Pakistani activist for girls’ education and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The film recounts how she miraculously survived after being hunted down and shot by a Taliban gunman as part of the organization’s violent campaign to suppress girls’ education in the Swat Valley in Pakistan.

CCOI’s Role:

CCOI collaborated with Fox Searchlight Pictures and the Independent Filmmaker Project on the organization of the premiere.
