Event Summary:

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other senior UN officials met with film and television industry professionals in Los Angeles to explore ways in which the United Nations and the creative community could join forces to raise awareness and mobilize the public around global issues. The 2010 visit featured a one-on-one conversation between the Secretary-General and UN Messenger of Peace Michael Douglas, as well as panel discussions on the theme of “Empowering Women”. The theme of the 2011 visit was "The Environment and Climate Change" and opened with a one-on-one conversation between the Secretary-General and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Don Cheadle. The day-long programme was moderated by former CNN anchor Larry King; speakers included UN Messengers of Peace Charlize Theron and Wangari Maathai and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity Edward Norton.
