Internet4Good seeks to challenge negative stereotypes about how young Africans use the Internet. The Internet4Good project seeks to engage media practitioners to responsibly report and set agenda on internet use among young Africans – especially in light of sensational reportage about “African internet scammers”.

The proposal of this team is to develop an employment platform that brings together the various existing employment web spaces and improves young people’s access to information on the labour market. The incentive for young people to use this space is to build a sense of community between them, based on interactions and common interests. To this end, a forum is proposed where young people can ask questions or receive suggestions from their peers and other stakeholders on the steps for starting or closing a business, tips on entrepreneurship, among other questions.

MEDOM is a teleconsultation app developed by a group of medical students and interns, under the supervision of a qualified doctor, to provide patients with healthcare services and advice from qualified health professionals while staying at home. While the service is focused on identifying and treating COVID-19, patients may also use MEDOM for other diseases. To reach marginalized communities, the app is complemented by a hotline available for free and 24/7 for people who don’t have access to internet.

The internet and ICT plays a crucial role in economic recovery from the effects of COVID-19. While the digital economy offers great opportunities, many individuals in rural areas and marginalized groups are not able to utilize this because of barriers such as lack of skills, lack of stable internet connectivity, devices, etc. Layertech’s Business Management Software suite is specifically designed to fill this gap and empower MSMEs to join the digital economy, Layertech aims to build skills and capacity of micro, small, medium entrepreneurs (MSMES) to join the digital economy, for inclusive economic recovery from COVID-19 Pandemic. Since the COVID-19 lockdown, Layertech has partnered with four (and counting) cities in the Philippines to give FREE lifetime access to the Business Suite, as well as access to related e-learning courses and training, to identified entrepreneurs who face challenges in exploring opportunities online. In parallel, Layertech also partnered with non-profit organizations to distribute FREE digital training and gamified learning application to PWD children, students, and capacitate them with the key skills needed for the digital age and the ‘new normal’ brought by COVID-19.
