The Secretary-General of the United Nations commends the Comorian people for peacefully fulfilling their civic duty by participating in the second round of the elections for President of the Union of Comoros and for Governors of Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli on Sunday 10 April 2016. The elections are an important step in the consolidation of democracy in Comoros.
Following the announcement of the provisional results of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) today, the Secretary-General calls on all stakeholders to maintain a democratic spirit and resolve any dispute that may arise from the elections through legal and peaceful means.
The Secretary-General reaffirms the commitment of the United Nations, in coordination with the African Union and other international partners, to support the Comorian people in their efforts to further consolidate democracy, peace and the rule of law for the benefit of all sectors of society.

Le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies salue le peuple comorien pour avoir accompli son devoir civique de manière pacifique en participant au deuxième tour des élections du Président de l’Union des Comores et des Gouverneurs des Iles de Grande Comore, Anjouan et Mohéli le dimanche, 10 avril 2016. Les élections constituent une étape importante dans la consolidation de la démocratie aux Comores.
A la suite de la publication aujourd’hui des résultats provisoires des élections par la Commission Electorale Nationale Indépendante (CENI), le Secrétaire général appelle toutes les parties prenantes à maintenir un esprit démocratique et à résoudre les éventuels différends liés aux élections de manière pacifique et en utilisant les voies de recours légales.
Le Secrétaire général réaffirme l'engagement des Nations Unies, en coordination avec l'Union africaine et d'autres partenaires internationaux, à soutenir le peuple comorien dans ses efforts pour consolider davantage la démocratie, la paix et la primauté du droit au bénéfice de tous les secteurs de la sociéte.
