The Secretary-General continues to follow closely developments in Burundi. He commends the efforts of the Joint International Facilitation Team, comprising the East African Community, the African Union, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and the United Nations to assist the Burundian parties to reach consensus on the way forward to ensure peaceful and credible elections in their country.
The Secretary-General, deeply concerned over the prevailing political and security environment in Burundi, appeals to the Burundian authorities to seriously consider the proposal put forward by the Joint International Facilitation Team to postpone the elections further in order to create a conducive environment for inclusive, peaceful and transparent elections, in line with the recent decisions of the African Union Peace and Security Council and the Summit of the East African Community. 

The Secretary-General reiterates his appeal to all Burundian political leaders to address the current political crisis through dialogue in the larger interest of the people of Burundi, in order to consolidate peace and security and further strengthen national reconciliation.

Le Secrétaire général continue de suivre de près  les développements au Burundi. Il salue les efforts de l’équipe internationale de la facilitation, composée de la Communauté de l’Afrique de l’Est (CAE), de l’Union Africaine, de la Conférence Internationale sur la Région des Grands Lacs (CIRGL) et des Nations Unies, pour aider les parties burundaises à parvenir à un consensus en vue de la tenue d’élections pacifiques et crédibles dans leur pays.

Le Secrétaire général est profondément préoccupé par le climat politique et sécuritaire qui prévaut au Burundi. Il appelle les autorités burundaises à prendre sérieusement en considération la proposition de l’Equipe internationale de la facilitation de reporter les élections afin de créer un environnement  propice à la tenue d’élections inclusives, pacifiques et transparentes, conformément aux récentes décisions du Conseil de paix et de sécurité de l’Union africaine et du sommet des Etats de la Communauté de l’Afrique de l’Est (CAE).

Le Secrétaire appelle à nouveau tous les leaders politiques burundais à résoudre la crise actuelle par le dialogue dans l’intérêt du peuple burundais, afin de consolider la paix et la sécurité et renforcer la réconciliation nationale.
