The Secretary-General welcomes the start of peace talks between the Government of Colombia and representatives of the National Liberation Army (ELN), announced today.

Combined with the progress already achieved in the ongoing talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the Secretary-General hopes that this new development will contribute to ending the hemisphere's longest armed conflict and to building sustainable peace for the Colombian people.

The Secretary-General encourages all concerned parties to remain committed to the pursuit of peace in Colombia. He reiterates the willingness of the United Nations to support the peace process.

El Secretario General acoge con satisfacción el inicio de las conversaciones de paz entre el Gobierno de Colombia y los representantes del Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), tal como anunciado hoy.

Junto con los avances ya realizados en las conversaciones en curso con las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), el Secretario General espera que este nuevo desarrollo contribuya a poner fin al conflicto armado más largo del hemisferio, así como a la construcción de una paz duradera para el pueblo colombiano.

El Secretario General alienta a todas las partes concernidas a mantener su compromiso en la búsqueda de la paz en Colombia y reitera la voluntad de las Naciones Unidas de apoyar el proceso de paz.
