Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on shooting in Brussels

The Secretary-General was shocked to learn of the shooting on 24 May in the Jewish Museum of Brussels, which reportedly left two Israelis and one French citizen dead.

The Secretary-General notes that, while the investigation is ongoing, the location of the attack points to a possible anti-Semitic motivation behind it.  He reiterates his strong condemnation of all forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance and trusts that Belgian authorities will do everything possible to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime to justice swiftly.

The Secretary-General sends his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to one person reported injured.
