Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on Sudan and South Sudan negotiations

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the military clashes in the border region and calls on the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan to fully respect and implement the agreements they have already reached on security, border monitoring and Abyei.

He urges the parties to utilize to the fullest extent existing political and security mechanisms to peacefully address their differences. The Secretary-General welcomes the spirit of cooperation recently shown by the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan in addressing outstanding post-secession issues.  He urges the two Heads of State to meet as planned in a Summit on 3 April.
