The Secretary-General met today with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos Calderón. The Secretary-General congratulated the Government of Colombia on the important agreement reached with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army on a ceasefire and the laying down of arms.  He noted that the agreement was a clear demonstration of the parties’ commitment to reach a Final Peace Agreement in the near future.  

The Secretary-General and President Santos discussed progress made so far in the peace talks and pending matters. They also discussed the ongoing preparations for the deployment of the UN Mission in Colombia, which is led by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Jean Arnault.

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the trust the Government of Colombia placed in the United Nations.

El Secretario General se reunió con el Presidente de Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos. El Secretario General felicitó al Gobierno de Colombia por el importante acuerdo alcanzado con las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia - Ejército del Pueblo sobre el cese al fuego y la dejación de armas. Indicó que el acuerdo es una clara muestra del compromiso de las partes para llegar a un Acuerdo de Paz definitivo en un futuro cercano.

El Secretario General y el Presidente Santos conversaron sobre los avances realizados hasta la fecha en las conversaciones de paz y sobre los asuntos pendientes. También trataron los preparativos en curso para el despliegue de la Misión de las Naciones Unidas en Colombia, liderada por el Representante Especial del Secretario General, Jean Arnault.

El Secretario General expresó su agradecimiento por la confianza depositada por el Gobierno de Colombia en las Naciones Unidas.
