Note to Correspondents: UN Peacebuilding Fund Supports UN Special Adviser’s Dialogue Efforts for Burundi with $1 Million

The UN Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) has just transferred close to $1 million to the Office of UN Special Adviser Jamal Benomar to support the peaceful resolution of conflict in Burundi.

“This funding is very timely”, Mr. Benomar said. “It will support ongoing efforts to kick-start an inclusive and genuine dialogue, which is key to resolving the present crisis for the benefit of the Burundian people.”

The funded project aims to create an environment conducive to a successful peace process.

The United Nations is mandated to support the Burundian dialogue and provide technical and substantive support to the East African Community-led Mediation, working closely with the African Union, on the basis of UN Security Council resolution 2279.

The PBF’s support will be flexible and is reinforced through other PBF-funded initiatives in the country, including dedicated support to women and youth.
