The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Faustin Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic, to discuss the situation in the Central African Republic, including the President’s dialogue with representatives of the armed groups.
The Secretary-General noted that the country had turned a corner following the holding of democratic elections. He welcomed the President’s outreach to the armed groups and his vision for a comprehensive process to address the underlying reasons that had driven them to take up arms. The Secretary-General also welcomed the resolve of the President and his Government to pursue this process in a spirit of national reconciliation and inclusiveness, guided by the principles and recommendations of the Bangui Forum.
The Secretary-General urged the armed groups to seize the opportunity afforded by the President’s initiative to bring peace and stability to the country by engaging in it in good faith. He stressed that the early restoration of state authority was critical for security and the country’s socio-economic recovery.
The Secretary-General emphasised the importance of the international community's support for the Central African Republic's efforts to tackle the root causes of the crisis and its backing for the country's recovery plan. He reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations and MINUSCA to lend its full support to the peace process.

Le Secrétaire-général a rencontré aujourd’hui S.E. M. Faustin Archange Touadéra, Président de la République centrafricaine, pour discuter de la situation en République centrafricaine, notamment de la prise de contact du Président avec les représentants des groupes armés.
Le Secrétaire-général a souligné que le pays était entré dans une nouvelle phase suite à la tenue d’élections démocratiques. Il a salué le Président pour avoir tendu la main aux groupes armés et pour sa vision d’une stratégie holistique visant à traiter les causes profondes qui ont poussé ces groupes à prendre les armes. Le Secrétaire-général s'est rejouit de la détermination du Président et de son gouvernement de poursuivre ce processus dans un esprit de réconciliation nationale et d’inclusion, tout en étant guidés par les principes et recommandations du Forum de Bangui.
Le Secrétaire-général a exhorté les groupes armés a' saisir l’opportunité qui leur est offerte à travers l’initiative du Président, en s’y’engageant en toute bonne foi, pour amener la paix et la stabilité dans le pays. Il a souligné que la restauration rapide de l’autorité de l’état était cruciale dans la promotion de la sécurité et du redressement socio-économique du pays.
Le Secrétaire-général a souligné l’importance pour la communauté internationale de continuer de soutenir la République centrafricaine à traiter des causes profondes de la crise et d’appuyer son plan de redressement. Il a réitéré l’engagement des Nations Unies et de la MINUSCA d’apporter leur soutien absolu au processus de paix.
