Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. James Alix Michel, President of the Republic of Seychelles and his Cabinet

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. James A. Michel, President of the Republic of Seychelles, and the Cabinet.

The Secretary-General noted the stable democratic process prevailing in Seychelles and praised efforts to promote gender equality and the high participation of women in parliament.

He encouraged Seychelles to continue its leading role on climate change and in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Secretary-General also commended the country’s role in the promotion of maritime security, including in fighting piracy and transnational organized crime. He also underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of violent extremism as well as empowering women and the youth to promote stable societies.
