The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Secretary-General commended the Prime Minister for the Presidency of the Netherlands in the European Union to forge a common response to the large movement of migrants and refugees towards Europe. The Secretary-General underscored the need for global solidarity and responsibility sharing, and noted there would be a High-level Plenary of the General Assembly on Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants in New York in September.
The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister exchanged views on the United Nations Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism. They also discussed the preparations for the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change to take place on 22 April.
