The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada. They discussed climate change, the importance of conflict prevention, Canada’s support to peace operations and the resettlement of refugees, as well as strengthening humanitarian assistance.
They also talked about the need to engage and empower youth, Canada's leadership on gender equality, and continuing efforts to address women’s and children’s health.
The Secretary-General encouraged the Prime Minister to lead by example in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He expressed his appreciation of the Canadian government's firm resolve to tackle global problems multilaterally, in close collaboration with the United Nations, and with generous and bold initiatives.
