The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The Secretary-General thanked the Prime Minister for Ethiopia’s key role in the region, particularly in Somalia and South Sudan, and emphasised the need to continue to work together to restore peace and stability in the region.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister also discussed the situation in Burundi, including recent and upcoming regional and international efforts to encourage political dialogue.

The Secretary-General appreciated Ethiopia’s commitment on climate change and on the implementation of the sustainable development goals.
