Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with a delegation of US senators

The Secretary-General met today with a delegation of US Senators attending the CoP21 in Paris.

He briefed the delegation on the state of the discussions so far at the conference.

The Secretary-General welcomed the constructive engagement and underscored the critical leadership of the United States in achieving a strong and ambitious universal agreement in Paris.

The Secretary-General noted the recent poll which shows a large majority of Americans welcome a climate agreement in Paris.

In that regard, the Secretary-General stressed the vital role of American legislators in supporting action on the ground after Paris.
